CV

Since 2012, David has lived in Hamburg and has continued working as a freelance journalist for German media, including Delta Radio, ARD (Buten un Binnen), N-TV, the Hamburger Abendblatt and RTL Nord. He also moderates a variety of political, economic and cultural events, both in English and in German.

David Patrician grew up in Rockville, Maryland, located just a few minutes outside of Washington, DC. He was a member of the marching band (playing the clarinet and saxophone) in high school, where he was also on the debate team and began learning German. This led to a semester exchange in Pinneberg, Germany (Rockville’s Sister City), where he gained a passion for traveling and working in foreign countries.

At the University of Maryland, he received his undergraduate degree in political science. Afterwards, he moved to South Korea for several years where he taught English, worked as a marketing manager for the Korean Soccer League, and hosted a radio show both in English and Korean. On several occasions he was invited to appear on Korean national television for interviews ranging from politics to arts and culture.

While in South Korea, he continued his studies with a Master’s Degree in International Law from Sogang University in Seoul. This program also included studying at Georgetown University (Washington, DC) at the School of Foreign Service. He returned to Washington and worked for the Voice of America in both the English and Korean Language Service.

In 2006 David came to Germany on a Fulbright Scholarship. He worked at Deutsche Welle in the English language service, then moved on to reporting in German for the Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) in Cologne.

His hobbies include volunteering for the Fulbright program, supporting the Sister City Organization, playing basketball, music and travel.

Fun Fact: While in Seoul, Korea, David had another par-time job: he was a K-pop singer! Here is a clip of one his concerts:
